What it does

Radar CZ draws the ČHMÚ radar composite over Apple Maps, so you can see where it rains right now and where the rain is heading.

  • A timeline with play and pause. Drag it to step through the last 30 minutes to 3 hours, one image every five minutes.
  • Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets that show the radar around a place you pick.
  • A surface rain mode that hides echoes unlikely to reach the ground.
  • A button that shows your location on the map, and a colour legend from drizzle to storm.
  • Standard, satellite and hybrid maps.
  • Settings for overlay opacity, history length, playback speed and map style.

Known limitations

  • The radar covers the Czech Republic and a strip of the neighbouring countries. Outside that area the map shows no rain.
  • A new image arrives every five minutes, and ČHMÚ publishes it a few minutes after the scan. The newest frame is never quite live.
  • The app shows measured rain only. It does not forecast.
  • Without a network connection the app cannot load new images.
